This work log summarizes the progress that I have made since November 19th toward completing the final draft of our feasibility report and other team goals and deadlines such as postmortems, conferences, and the individual documentation project.

Our team submitted our Midterm Project Report rewrite after our meeting on Tuesday, November 22nd, during which Ali, Li, and myself refined our Midterm Project Report, working primarily on its cohesiveness, flow, and alignment. Furthermore, our team continues to make progress with the feasibility report draft. We are in the process of putting together all parts of our feasibility report and finalizing them into a solid document. In addition, the team is preparing for oral reports and working on our Organization Postmortem.

The final draft of the feasibility report, as per our rubric, will focus on the physical location of the hookah bar, the total investment necessary to start a hookah bar, and will go on to expand on licensing and legal requirements, have a detailed marketing analysis, and will include details of the interior design of the hookah bar. This work has been delegated to various team members throughout the semester, and everyone has pulled their weight. This will be summarized and touched upon in our Organization Postmortem.

Our Organization Postmortem will be due this upcoming class on Wednesday, December 7th. For this document our team will largely be compressing our Midterm Project Report, while adding some reflection and summary. We will do this at team meetings this upcoming week.

This work log summarizes the progress that I have made since November 12th toward completing the feasibility report and other team goals and deadlines such as the Midterm Project Report rewrite.

So far, our team has made solid and consistent progress. All of the elements of our final feasibility report have current working drafts. Furthermore, the team is preparing for oral reports and postmortems that will be assigned in the coming few weeks. One of the final elements to our feasibility report will be a marketing strategy, which will complement the total investment, interior design, as well as licensing and legal requirements.

I attended our team meeting at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 16th during which I turned in completed surveys to Li for use in his research for our team’s marketing strategy. Prior, I read the article on Institutional Critique provided via e-mail by Dr. Rivers. During class, also on November 16th, I learned how Organizational Rhetoric and Institutional Critique relate to the documentary “Freakonomics.” Upon getting our Midterm Project Report back, it became clear that a revision is necessary. The document had issues with template, organization, flow, and alignment.

We have arranged a team meeting for this upcoming Tuesday, November 22nd. We will meet during the afternoon as a team to collectively work on the necessary revision of our Midterm Project Report. By Wendsday, November 23rd we intend to submit a document that is more cohesive and aligned.

This work log is for the week of November 14th to November 18th.

This week in the hookah bar organization, we met up at our regular meeting time and discussed the marketing survey. We didn’t get our 25 submissions from the whole group so we are going to postpone our deadline for the survey. I put the questions in a group message on Facebook last weekend to try to get submissions from some of my friends. Only three people responded back to me by Wednesday and only one actually answered all of the questions. I got some feedback about one question in particular, the household income. I talked to Li about it since he is in charge of the survey research. Instead of coming up with another question or changing the actual survey we decided that we can use the income question if people decide to answer it, if not we will not stress that part of the survey. Every school or job doesn’t ask about race or income, so I don’t think it will make or break the project. This Thanksgiving week I will take advantage of the holidays and get some family members to help out and give us some responses. I should have all of my five and maybe more by the end of this week. For next week I will collaborate with the group so we can edit our midterm project report. We have a lot to reconfigure as far as the structure of our document goes, so it should not be too much for us to come together and reproduce a cleaner report. We will be working on it together on GoogleDocs. We have a meeting on Tuesday at 3:30 to finish up our editing and proofread as a group before we turn in the document by Wednesday.

This work log summarizes the progress that I have made since November 5th towards completing the feasibility report and toward other team goals and deadlines such as the Midterm Project Report.

I participated in our team’s two meetings this last week, one on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:30 PM and one on Wendsday, November 9th at 5:00 PM, both in our classroom. I took the initiative in organizing the deliverables for the first meeting, and I did heavy editing on our draft of the Midterm Project Report at the second meeting. At the first meeting I helped compose the various portions of our Midterm Project Report, including sections of a rough draft of our feasibility report, related to licensing and legal requirements. The other portions of our Midterm Project report included various topics, such as a detailing tasks to be completed, which I wrote out drawing from team input as well as our Gantt Chart.

Our team is on track to have a complete, final version of our feasibility report by the time our Final Project Reports are due. I will continue to contribute to the revision and polishing of this document, as currently we only have a draft that is missing certain input, such as the results of surveys designed to target our marketing strategy. Each team member (myself included) is responsible for getting results from almost half a dozen surveys.

Once we get our Midterm Project Report back this upcoming week, we will have an optional rewrite.

This work log summarizes the progress that our team has made since November 5th towards completing the feasibility report and toward other team goals and deadlines such as the Midterm Project Report.

Our team had two meetings this last week, one on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:30 PM and one on Wendsday, November 9th at 5:00 PM, both in our classroom. Both meetings were productive and successful. We composed the various portions of our Midterm Project Report, including a rough draft of our feasibility report. The other portions of our Midterm Project report included various topics, such as a general assessment of the organization’s functioning as a team with respect to the Team Charter defined in the Organization plan. This assessment included progress towards both team and personal goals, listing each team member’s personal progress toward a personal goal while also providing an overview of how we are doing as an organization.

Overall, the news we presented in our Midterm Project Report was positive. We are on-track for producing a final, polished version of the hookah bar’s feasibility report by the time that our Final Project Reports are due. Everyone on the team contributed to the Midterm Project Report. Ali provided the aforementioned general assessment, while Allie detailed tasks accomplished. Li presented his marketing strategy, while Leohn elaborated on the interior design. Thom presented future actions and detailed licensing and legal requirements for the hookah bar.

We have an optional revision of our Midterm Project Report, which will be handed back to us this upcoming week.

This work log is for the week of November 4th to November 11th.

This week in the hookah bar organization, we met up with all members multiple times which is something that we haven’t done with the project thus far. We had our midterm project report to turn in on Wednesday November 9th so I was assigned last week at the class meeting to pull together research from all of the interior design work I have been doing. I made some decisions about lighting and furniture and eventually had to downsize my portfolio of different pieces to the few essential products that the group thought were most important to have. I also had to consult with my team members when it came to producing an estimate for hardwood floor renovations. Allie told me that our feasibility plan had total renovation costs put down for $25,000 and I got an official estimate from Craftsmen’s Network that it should cost approximately $15,708. That leaves us a good amount left over to redo windows, awnings, and other miscellaneous touch ups. For next week I have to distribute Li’s survey to at least five of my friends so we can add it to the marketing strategy. We will meet up again around five on Wednesday as well.

Hastings, Work Log Oct 29-Nov 4

Subject: Weekly Work Log

This work log summarizes the progress that I have made since October 29th towards completing the feasibility report.

Our team meeting on Wendsday, November 2nd at 5:00 PM in our classroom was successful. We went over our total investment, did grammar checking and revision on Li’s marketing strategy outline, and discussed tasks to be completed in order to present a solid Midterm Project Report.

I have communicated with the group regarding deliverables for our team meeting next Tuesday, November 8th at 7:30 PM in our classroom. Ali is to provide a general assessment of the organization’s functioning as a team with respect to the Team Charter defined in the Organization Plan. Allie is to detail tasks accomplished (summary of activities), drawing from meeting minutes. Li will present his marketing strategy and explain obstacles (internal and external), examining what and why, for example drawing from our Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-Threat (SWOT) analysis. Leohn will show the interior design of the bar including but not limited to paint, furniture (tables, seating, bar), lighting, pictures, and decor. Thom will go over licensing and legal requirements and will present actions to be taken (or tasks to be completed) in near future, updating the report according to the Gantt Chart.

During our meeting we will combine these elements, revise, and fill out the remainder of our Midterm Project Report, solidifying a draft ready to send as a PDF to Dr. Rivers in class on November 9th. We also have an optional revision due the following week.
