Week 9: Work Log- Nie

October 29, 2011 Leave a comment

This report is regarding the work that I have done in the week from 10/24 to 10/28 and what I am working on for the next week in SLU tailgating organization.

This week I worked on a draft of pitch for Pappy’s. Before writing the draft of pitch, I considered which part of the pitch should be focus on carefully. Finally I think I should highlight the potential benefit that Pappy’s can get from the tailgate party, although the money is going to denote to charity. The first part of the pitch is going to be the introduction of our organization and our goal. The following part is about our market clientele and competitive advantage. The last part is trying to convince them to join us by stating the potential benefit. I am still thinking the hook for the pitch. I am not sure it could be in a casual way or have to be a formal style because we are actually pitching for a real business. On this point I need to ask my teammate which is other local business specialist.

The work I need to do in the upcoming week is to finish the pitch, and also need to come to compromise with the other business specialist on this.

Work Log: Week 9 – Bhoffstetter

October 29, 2011 1 comment

The report below lists the work that I have completed and work ongoing for SLU tailgate in the week of 10/21 to 10/28.

This week I have completed a draft of the pitch letter for Humphreys.  This letter took me a long time to complete.  This being my first pitch letter to an actual business, I did not really know where to start.  In addition to writing the pitch letter, I continued looking for other businesses to pitch to.  The basic criteria that I am using for the search is: the business must be local and they must have an interest in giving back to the community.   As local business specialist it is also my job to help design the physical layout for the tailgate.  To help with that I have been trying to get an enlarged map of the possible tailgate locations in order to map out the service areas that will be needed.

For the upcoming week, I plan on finding another business to write a pitch letter for. After I have identified that business I will draft another personalized pitch letter for it.  This should go quicker now that I have a reference to guide me.

This week my team met up for an hour before class and reported on all of our research findings for the week. I made a few decisions about what I want to do with color schemes and whatnot, but I plan next week to bring some ideas to the meeting for us to officially vote on. Since Ali found an official place for us this week I can now get started on finding out patio space and furniture for the inside. I found a pretty good company for us to order outdoor heaters from and we can probably get seating arrangements squared away using the same companies’ products. For next week our group is going to work on getting our budget together and figuring out how much money we really have available to spend on different things like supplies for the bar, alcohol and food expenses, interior decoration expenses, and renovation costs as well. I will have things together next week as far as what kind of colors we want, different supplies we can add to the interior, and menu design as well. Also at the meeting we all went through the final draft of the Organization Plan document that we edited for this week. After going through it and making some minor changes we submitted it via email before class. Next week we will have a better understanding of our finances and we plan to move forward with figuring out budget plans and expenses altogether.

Week 9- Willis Work Log

October 28, 2011 Leave a comment

This post is a record of my contributions to the Hookah Bar project for week 9, from 10/21-10/28. My main contribution was again taking, organizing, and posting the meeting minutes to the group blog. These postings will enhance group communication and efficiency. The group can stay connected, everyone knows what is due and expected from them, and everyone knows the upcoming tasks that they can start thinking about. The meeting minutes have also proved effective to keeping group deadlines on track.

I also spent time this week researching properties. I composed a document with three prospective properties; two in Midtown and one in the Central West End. The way I comprised these documents allowed the group to compare properties by size, rent price by square foot, and neighborhood prospects.

This week the group is focused on starting the Total Investment document. I was responsible for level one of the document, the first of three layers. This leveled approach allows for coordination and independent thinking simultaneously. I wrote the outline and elaborated on the topics to the extent I could, then sent the document to Ali and Thom to further contribute to the document. The draft is set to be completed by the time of the Midterm Report.

Week 9: Hookah Bar Team Work Log

Subject: Weekly record of team progress

This week was pretty productive for us as a team. We met up at our regular meeting time an hour before class and each member of the organization reported on everything that they could find out about locations including pricing and feasibility as well. Everything we planned to accomplish last week we got done, so now we’re at a pretty good stance as far as the progress of our project goes. Ali, our team leader, reported that he had found a nice spacious place in an ideal spot that was a pasta restaurant actually due to close down soon which would be perfect for our organization to set up the hookah bar. It has a patio, which is pretty clutch, since it was a priority for us and many of the sites we were looking at were actually missing that feature. Li came with some really good research as well. He mentioned that he made some calls overseas to a company in China where we could get hookahs wholesale for a really good price. We also discussed another way to make money by selling hookahs at the bar as well. Looking at an actual space, I can now see exactly what I want to do with the interior also. As interior design researcher I am going to have to start making decisions about how we will set things up as far as furniture, signs and color schemes. I will probably have some ideas for us to vote on next time at our next meeting that will be next Wednesday at 5.

For next week we plan to have finances and details on our budget ready so we can start pricing the inventory and get renovation fees figured out as well.

I do feel happy since I can contribute something for my team and my teammates are also offered they will take care of my polish my papers, since I am doing a lot of writing, so I will not have to worry about my writing issues that mush, and I do feel thankful of what the did to help me to make the class become easier for me. Khan, Weekly Contribution, Week 19 to 26th

Date: October 28th 2011.

To: Dr. Rivers

From: Ali Khan, Hookah Bar

Subject: Weekly record of individual contribution

This weekly report highlights the contribution I personally made to the Hookah Bar organization during the week of October 19th through the 26th of October 2011.

The majority of my time this week was spent on making revisions to the Organization Plan Document that Dr. Rivers had returned with his suggestions and comments for improvement. At the end of class our group had decided that Thom and I will be responsible for the corrections that had to be made to our groups initial Organization Plan.

I kept the original document that Dr. Rivers handed back to us with his comments. Because I had the original document, I did the initial revision to it. After I made the recommended changes I sent the revised Organization Plan to Thom with a scanned copy of the original document that Dr. Rivers had returned. Thom improved on the revisions I made and together we came up with a better Organization Plan Document.

I coordinated our weekly meeting that took place at 5 pm on Wednesday the 26th of October. I also updated the group about the progress that the group had made. In addition I also gave Allie the phone number of the realtor of the location that we are interested in.

My task for the upcoming week is to figure out how much total investment will be needed for the start up of the bar. We will use this information to start our feasibility report.
